Start It Up is the re-filmed pilot episode of Shake It Up and the first of the overall series. It first aired on November 7, 2010 on Disney Channel.

CeCe Jones and her best friend, Rocky Blue, both land the roles of back-up dancers on a local popular dance television show, but both dream of becoming the lead. They get their chance, but CeCe gets stage fright before her audition.

Episode Summary

Rocky Blue and CeCe Jones appear among a group of people, waiting at a subway stop. As Rocky plays her boombox, they dance for money, which results in a large gathering crowd and much applause. They even try to get some of their audience members involved with their dance routine by teaching them some dance moves. However, after receiving the hat they passed around, Rocky sees that they only earned a dime. After telling the crowd that they want money for cell phones and an operation, they pass around the hat again only to see that their dime is gone. Next, the girls get ready for school and CeCe does her daily ritual of yelling out through her apartment window to Rocky, who lives on the floor above, to get ready for school. While preparing for school, "Shake It Up, Chicago" appears on television, and CeCe dances along to it. CeCe's mother, Georgia, a police officer enters the scene along with CeCe's younger brother, Flynn. When Georgia orders CeCe to fix breakfast for Flynn, Rocky arrives, rushing CeCe to catch the subway for school. In a rush, the two prepare a "one-minute breakfast" for Flynn, mixing his cereal in a blender and putting it in a bag. As they arrive at school, CeCe and Rocky's friend, Deuce, is introduced, offering them bootleg Lady Gaga concert tickets. He then tells them about an opportunity to audition on their favorite show, "Shake It Up, Chicago!" After deciding to go to the auditions, their rivals, Gunther and Tinka Hessenheffer, are introduced and they tell CeCe and Rocky their plans of trying out for the show as well. Before going to the auditions, Rocky has an impromptu dance-off with her brother, Ty. CeCe encourages him to try out also, but he says that he "doesn't dance for the man." Both girls do well in their preliminary auditions, and Rocky shines during the solo round. However, CeCe gets stage fright and ends up running off stage in shame. Rocky finds her crying at the subway stop, embarrassed and referring to herself as a loser. When CeCe brings up how Rocky is better and names all of her good qualities, Rocky replies with things good about CeCe. CeCe then accompanies Rocky on "Shake It Up, Chicago!" to support her. Rocky then tries to get CeCe onstage with her, and when she refuses, Rocky uses Georgia's handcuffs to make her get on stage and they dance together. After the segment is over, the show's host, Gary Wilde decides to let CeCe join the show as well. Trying to unlock the handcuffs, Rocky realizes that the keys are gone. Flynn took the keys in retaliation for the "one-minute breakfast" they prepared for him. In the end, they get paychecks, but with all the stuff they need, they only get to keep two dollars.

Memorable Quotes

CeCe: How'd we do? How'd we do?

Rocky: It's a stinking' dime!
CeCe: Oh, come on, people! Yesterday, there was a guy here with a psychic cat. His name was Mittens, and even I gave him a dollar.
Rocky: So let's try this again, people. I'm Rocky, and right over there is CeCe and we're the only ones in our class that don't have cellphones.

CeCe: Plus, we need operations!
CeCe: How'd we do this time?
Rocky: Someone stole our dime!
CeCe: Yo, Rocky, hustle it up, school starts in twenty!

Georgia: Quit yelling! You're gonna wake the whole neighborhood!
CeCe: Shh!
Georgia: Did you shush me?
CeCe: Well I wouldn't have to yell if only --
Georgia: "I had a cellphone."
CeCe: How'd you know I was going to say that?
Georgia: Sweetheart, those were your first words. Okay, now I'm off to fight crime.
CeCe: Mom, you're a cop, not a superhero.

Georgia: A single mom raising two kids on her own is a superhero! And the only reason I'm not wearing a cape is because, I'm behind on laundry.
Rocky: Hottie alert! Hottie alert! Could he be any cuter? Call me! Ya know, if I ever get a cell phone!
Deuce: Check it out chicas! I got two tickets for Lady Gaga. Fifty bucks. Obstructed view.

Rocky: How obstructed?

Deuce: Ladies room, Stall 3.
Gunther Hello, peoples. I'm Gunther.

Tinka: And I'm Tinka.
Twins: And we are, the Hessenheffers!
CeCe: We know who you are. You've been exchange students since the first grade.

Rocky: And when do we get to exchange you back?
CeCe: Hey, we should practice some moves for the audition.

Rocky: Yeah, about that. I'm not going. Maybe Gunther and Tinka are right.
CeCe: Why would you listen to anything they say? What are you? "lunie-nutty"?
Rocky: Maybe I am, but I'm still not going. I'm too scared.
CeCe: Oh, come on, Rock, don't do this again.
Rocky: Do what?
CeCe: Talk yourself out of doing something before it even happens. All our lives we've dreamed of being professional dancers. Now we can see if we're good enough.

Rocky: I think there's gonna be big kids there.
Ty: No thanks, I don't dance for the man. (notices a pretty girl walking by) But I do dance for the woman! hey!
Rocky: Give me a break! That scary one eyed pigeon was on the firescape again.
Rocky: That's ridiculous! I can't think of one time when you've ever acted like a loser

CeCe: Really? Remember when we were at camp and I wanted to race those canoes?

Rocky: They were very unstable.

CeCe: No! I'm very unstable! I tipped over the canoe, cut my lip and my top came off!

Rocky: CeCe, you were ten no one even knew you were a girl

CeCe: I knew!
Rocky: CeCe Jones is not a loser. CeCe Jones is a girl who has the guts to try all these crazy things. And I as your BFF, get to try them too.
Cece: Rocky you can let us loose now

Rocky: Oh right. Where's the secret button?

CeCe: What secret button?

Rocky: The secret button that opens the handcuffs!

CeCe: It's called a key! Where's the key?

Flynn (Holding up the key): Breakfast is not a bag of vomit.
