(as Little Gunther) Oh look, Little CeCe is the same size as Big CeCe!

Hot Mess It Up is the 14th episode of season 1 of Shake It Up and the 14th of the overall series. It first aired on March 20, 2011.

Overview[]

The girls host a video webcast offering advice to teens, and CeCe gives some mean advice to someone much like Gunther about not getting a date to the school ball, prompting Rocky to force her to ask him to the dance.

Synopsis[]

Gary talks to CeCe, Rocky, Gunther, and Tinka about having a webcast, but he already has hosts for the dance and fashion segments. Gary suggests a teen advice show and asks both groups a sample question: "If your brother steals money from Mom's purse, what should you do?" Rocky suggests telling Mom, so the brother can be punished, while Gunther suggests handing the thief over to the secret police and being locked up in prison. Gary ends up liking Rocky's advice better.

In their webcast, CeCe and Rocky introduce themselves as "You're a Hot Mess and We're Not!" and read a question from Lonely Boy who can't get a date for the dance. Rocky suggests going alone and enjoying oneself, but CeCe gets upset when she realizes it was said to the entire audience. CeCe assumes that Lonely Boy is either ugly, smells funny, or a troll and advises him to transfer to a new school. Rocky, on the other hand, thinks that their advice was terrible and she had seen better advice on a used tissue. Later on, they check their emails and find one from Glitter Girl who expresses her hatred towards CeCe and Rocky, having watched them on Shake It Up, Chicago! and their webcast. Surprisingly, Lonely Boy turns out to be her twin brother and is planning on moving back to their home country.

Rocky suggests that Lonely Boy and Glitter Girl are actually Gunther and Tinka. CeCe is hesitant at first, but when Rocky reads the email in Tinka's accent, CeCe immediately agrees with her. They then discover that their advice show has unintentionally broken up Gunther and Tinka's relationship, causing a rift between them.

Gunther is interested in the sandwiches sold on planes because he doesn't want to bring a chicken and kill it. Rocky asks CeCe to go to the school dance with Gunther, but she disagrees, feeling a pain in her chest. Rocky says it's guilt, and CeCe tries to ask Gunther out but can't bring herself to do it. She resorts to using a sock to communicate with him. When Gunther realizes that she's asking him out, he rejects her, saying it stinks more than the sock. However, he later buys her a muffin and says he wants to marry her.

At the dance, Gunther talks with Rocky while CeCe waits in the hallway. Eventually, she enters the room wearing black glittery clothes with a yellow "CC" on them, claiming that a rainbow threw up on her. Gunther tries to slow dance with her, but she's too ticklish. Meanwhile, Tinka wonders what it would be like if CeCe were her sister and asks her to pull her fingers. Although CeCe initially declines, she eventually gives in and pulls Tinka's fingers, much to Tinka's delight.

CeCe apologizes to Gunther for giving him bad advice, but this puzzles Tinka because Gunther was actually going to St. Louis for a sequin convention, not because of the advice show; she then reveals it was actually their cousins who were separating. Upon hearing this, Gunther breaks up with CeCe, but she responds by telling him that they were never dating and only pretended to be together to make him happy. Gunther doesn't believe her and says "sure" to her. After Gunther and Tinka leave, CeCe glares at Rocky in anger for the whole ordeal.

Flynn records a webcast at home, which he later watches with Deuce and Ty. Although they think nobody will watch the show, 5,000 people actually do. As a result, Ty claims that they have no lives. The boys decide to plan their own teen advice show to get 5 million hits. Flynn suggests the two words "zom-bies" as a possible theme. During the boys' advice show, Zombie Talk, they receive a question about what to do if someone has eaten their little sister and their mom may ground them. Flynn suggests that they eat the customer's mom so that she cannot ground them. The boys snarl at the camera, but Flynn stops the show because he realizes that zombies eat brains, not people.

The boys invite Sarah to their next show, Zombie Idol, and Deuce considers eating her because she is pretty. Sarah talks about her scream, and the boys ask her to scream and judge the quality of her scream. Ty approves, and Deuce asks Sarah to take his hand, which falls off when she shakes it. Sarah screams and drops the hand. Flynn complains that his eardrums hurt, and the boys chase Sarah as zombies. Ty asks Sarah out for dinner, and she agrees, but the zombies end up eating her; Ty states he likes blondes because they are tasty. Flynn considers whether they should return to their graves or dance, while Ty and Deuce prefer dancing. They eventually all dance to "It's Alive" and amid the cheering, Ty growls loudly as the four stagger off.

Memorable Quotes[]

Gunther: (as Little Gunther) Oh look, Little CeCe is the same size as Big CeCe!
CeCe: You want to tell me why you think this is so funny?
Rocky: Well, because you so deserve it. Maybe next time you won't give out advice when your brain isn't on speaking terms with your mouth.
Rocky: Oh, hey Gunther. Where's CeCe?
Gunther: She's in the hallway. You know that one likes to make a big entrance. CeCe darling, your BF and your BFF are waiting for you!
CeCe: (from the hallway) I'm good in the hall!
Gunther: But no one can see your fabulous dress!
CeCe: I know! That's why I'm good in the hall!
Gunther: It was supposed to be a dress for Little Tinka puppet, but it fits on CeCe too.
Rocky: (reading the e-mail) "Dear Rocky and CeCe, I've seen you on Shake It Up! Chicago..."
CeCe: Aw, we have a fan!
Rocky: "...and I watch your webcast..."
CeCe: Aw, thank you. You're why we do it!
Rocky: "and I hate your guts."
CeCe: Aw, right back at you... Wait, what?!
CeCe: Oh, no, Rocky. Something is wrong, all of a sudden I'm feeling something I've never felt before.
Rocky: That something you're feeling is called guilt.
CeCe: Make it stop! Make it stop!
Gunther: CeCe, we're at a dance. Why are we not busting a move and letting it all hang out? You are the best dancer on Shake It Up! Chicago.
CeCe: Aww, that's so sweet of you! Do you really believe that?
Gunther: No, but as my future wife, you must get used to me lying to you.

Trivia[]

  • This episode was leaked on YouTube on March 13, 2011.
  • This is the first episode that showcases Deuce dancing.
  • Flynn said that "Zombie Talk" wasn’t working, so Ty, Deuce, and Flynn host another internet webcast called "Zombie Idol." This is a reference to American Idol, both in title and in style. In the webcast, Ty pretends to be Randy Jackson, Deuce pretends to be Paula Abdul and Flynn pretends to be Simon Cowell.
  • CeCe looks at hate mail and denies it, saying all hate mail must be written in the form of a question. This is a reference to a rule on Jeopardy! where players must rephrase an answer in the form of a question.
  • This is the episode where the pairing "GeCe" is born, and has GeCe moments in it.
  • This is the first episode where Rocky forces CeCe to do something she doesn't want to do.
  • It's revealed that Cece is ticklish when Rocky tickled her armpits at the dance in order for her to dance with Gunther.

Goofs[]

  • If Gunther were to marry CeCe, CeCe would become Tinka's sister-in-law, not her sister. However, this may not be a goof because in some religions they only call them sisters, not sisters-in-law.

Continuity[]

  • At the party, Not Too Young can be heard playing ("Age It Up").
