Shake It Up: Made in Japan is a Shake It Up movie/episode event. It serves as the Season 2 finale. A promo for the episode aired during the Disney Channel Original Movie, Let It Shine on June 15, 2012. This is the 49th episode. Sometimes stylized as Made in Japan.
Plot[]
Part 1[]
In Japan, at Watanabe Studios, a worker suggests they make a video game with a group from one of the American Shake It Up shows. Back in the United States, all the Shake it Up shows compete and Shake It Up, Chicago! wins. They fly on a private jet to Japan, but CeCe takes Rocky to a hypnotist, Shelly, so Rocky can get over her fear of flying. While Rocky is still hypnotized, CeCe is thanking her and hopes she can enjoy herself a little, prompting Shelly to ask what she means. CeCe tells Shelly Rocky is her best friend and loves her to death, but she has a tendency to not be so excited about fun things, which Shelly describes as a wet blanket. Shelly comes up with an idea, telling Rocky she's gonna have the most fun she had on the trip and anytime CeCe strokes her arm and says "Get on board", she will follow CeCe's lead. CeCe isn't sure about this idea until Shelly tells her to trust her. Shelly then snaps Rocky out of her hypnotic state and CeCe tells her what her first stop will be, and Rocky does the same. Shelly then motions for CeCe to test out the trigger word on Rocky, making her forget her first stop, and Shelly asks her of it involved shopping, to which Rocky agrees. CeCe looks at Shelly, who gives her a thumb up, and CeCe is shocked the trigger worked.
Rocky, CeCe, Gunther, Tinka, Ty, Flynn, Gary, Georgia are all aboard the plane and Henry goes as well, which he brings his android, Andy. Ty also keeps in contact with Deuce through his tablet, in which Deuce acts like he is actually in Japan. CeCe asks if Rocky is okay, and Rocky tells her she is feeling relaxed and thanks her for helping. Rocky shows CeCe her memory book she wants to fill with memories and CeCe shows her a song she wrote called "Made in Japan". CeCe thinks about what Shelly said in her mind then tells herself "No, I don't think is fine" out loud. When Rocky heard her, CeCe told her that everything is fine as she told her it was nothing and then decided to just to take a nap. As everyone arrives in Tokyo, Gunther and Tinka lose their luggage but buy new clothes. Meanwhile, CeCe's trying to get Rocky to do fun things her way without using the "get on board" trigger.
Part 2[]
Rocky, Cece, Gunther, and Tinka are at Watanabe Studios dancing for the game. Mr. Watanabe's grandchildren, Hideko and Ichiro, make an app for the game before it's released but Mr. Watanabe tells them to leave it to their marketing team. Hideko and Ichiro tell Rocky and CeCe he'll be at the karaoke club that night, which CeCe sees as an opportunity to show him they can sing, but Rocky suggests they put the app online so he'll be proud when it comes a success. When CeCe reminds Rocky it's their chance to make their dream happen, Rocky says she's gonna do what she wants and CeCe can't change her mind, CeCe realized her methods are no longer working and remembers the trigger word Shelly gave her and gives in to using it. As she strokes Rocky's arm to make her forget her plans, they head off to the karaoke club. There, they sing to Mr. Watanabe, who actually likes their performance and wants to sign a deal with them. Later at dinner, Hideko and Ichiro present the app but Mr. Watanabe claims he is not interested. Rocky tries to persuade him, but everything she says makes Mr. Watanabe feel like he is wrong and after she says he is being unreasonable, he takes that as the last straw. When CeCe tries defending Rocky, Mr. Watanabe thanks her and rips both their contracts, cancelling the Shake it Up dance video game project. Gary persuades Mr. Watanabe to put the game project back on, but on the circumstance that Rocky and CeCe are both fired from Shake It Up, Chicago! Later, everyone is kicked out of the suite and has to find another place to stay.
The next day, Rocky and CeCe go back to talk to Mr. Watanabe to give them their jobs back. Rocky tells CeCe it won't be the end of the world if he doesn't, only for CeCe to claim it will be the end of hers, because she not smart enough to do anything if she sets her mind to it like Rocky. CeCe believes dancing is the only thing she has, but Rocky tells her not to sell herself short that she can be a lot of things, before correcting herself to a few things. CeCe decides to go talk to Mr. Watanabe alone and leaves her purse with Rocky, which had her phone in it. Hearing CeCe's phone ringing, Rocky answers on her behalf as Shelly was calling to see how Rocky handled her fear of flying. Not realizing she talking to Rocky herself, Shelly unintentionally revealed to her that she had CeCe stroke her arm and say "get on board" to do what she says. Hearing this, Rocky gets mad and gets the impression that CeCe asked Shelly to do this.
The second Rocky hangs up, CeCe angrily returns telling Rocky Mr. Watanabe refused to see her and asked Rocky if she has ever been so mad, that she did not know what to say. Rocky tells her she can relate and that they need to have a serious discussion, but CeCe tells her she is not interested in another "it's never going to happen" lecture. Rocky gets a little more upset when CeCe points how close they were into making their dream happen until she insulted Mr. Watanabe as she always had to be right, which cost them everything. When Rocky asks if it's all her fault, she tells CeCe if only she would have been able to "get on board." Hearing this, CeCe becomes shocked and a little confused, then was says "Excuse me?" Rocky clarifies that she knows about the trigger by stroking CeCe'a arm and asks if she wants her to "get on board." Getting defensive, CeCe tries to cover it up by saying she doesn't know what Rocky is talking about, but Rocky tells her Shelly called while she was talking to Mr. Watanabe. CeCe gets more defensive towards Rocky as she claims she doesn't know a Shelly, until Rocky reminds her. Rocky then scolds her for being so selfish and manipulative that she won't let Rocky have her own thoughts. Although admitting she crossed a line, CeCe explains to Rocky that it was Shelly's idea and she only used it one time (not counting the test run to see if it worked) and could have used it way more than that, as her way of telling her she was against it.
However, Rocky is so angry that she doesn't believe CeCe's explanation and sees it as one of her excuses. CeCe gets emotionally hurt and shocked that Rocky doesn't believe her, so she angrily lashes out what she believes is the truth, taking full blame for Shelly. Hearing CeCe say her intentions were for their friendship and dream, Rocky instead believes she was doing it for her dream. When Rocky then shows CeCe her memory book filled with moments CeCe put in, Rocky gets more mad because it was her book and nothing in it was important to her. However, CeCe protests and asked Rocky about what's important to them as they're supposed to be partners and friends. After being reminded that a partner is supposed to push one to do their best rather than constantly tell them they're wasting their time, Rocky believes they shouldn't be partners. CeCe asked Rocky if she was gonna quit dancing because they're in a fight, but Rocky tells her she is going to keep dancing, but not with CeCe. CeCe is confused by what Rocky is saying, so she reiterates it in a way CeCe might understand, saying she's become a supporting character in the CeCe Show instead of starring in the Rocky Show and she is done. Rocky leaves the building and CeCe sheds one tear that their friendship ended just like that then leaves the building heartbroken.
Part 3[]
Everyone hears about what happened and knowing they're good together, they all try talking to Rocky and CeCe individually to get them to make up, but with both girls mad at each other, they both refuse. Little does Rocky know, CeCe was more mad at herself for not seeing or doing something to stop Shelly for putting the trigger on her. Although, CeCe can now stop wasting her time with friends and partners who don't believe her, indicting that she is glad that her friendship with Rocky ended, as she hid her true feelings with a smile. However, deep down, CeCe was broken-hearted about the hurtful things Rocky said to her and their ending friendship.
Meanwhile, Gunther and Tinka are happy to have new clothes from Japan, but upon seeing two teenagers, Genta and Tomoka, wearing their stolen clothes, Tinka gets into a fight with Tomoka and a security guard attempts to break it up, but Tinka accidentally hits him in the head with her elbow and is about to be deported back to the old country, leaving Gunther to call both Rocky and CeCe for help. Seeing each other at the Police Station, Rocky and CeCe put their argument aside to help their frenemies. After arriving at the airport, the girls convinced the security guards to send Gunther and Tinka back to America together by telling them they're a team, which helped them realize that they need each other no matter how many mistakes one makes. As Gunther and Tinka leave, CeCe apologizes to Rocky, but she responds with "yeah, yeah, yeah, I love you, too" and agrees to join CeCe in getting their jobs back.
Wanting to get their jobs back, Rocky and CeCe find Mr. Watanabe at a theater with his mother where they were able to sneak in as performers. When Mr. Watanabe sees them, he is about to have them thrown out, but changes his mind when he sees his mother smile and dance along. He then talks with Rocky and CeCe after the show ends and decides to give them another chance, having them perform at his company's music festival, Watanabalooza, the following night for 5,000 people. Although CeCe wants to do the performance, she felt she still had to make amends with Rocky for her actions as she tells Mr. Watanabe they have other plans. CeCe tells Rocky it's not too late to fill her memory book of things that are important to her, and wants to be the supporting character The Rocky Show t help ehr so what she wants. Despite finding the gesture to be very sweet and knowing how sorry CeCe is, Rocky decides to do the performance since it's a once in a lifetime chance and they manage to get Mr. Watanabe to give them everything back.
Meanwhile, the app Mr. Watanabe's grandchildren created contained a virus that causes all electronic devices in Tokyo to shut down, which could go global if not immediately stopped. but Henry, who did not upload the app, attempts to fix it, but can't get past the firewall. They infiltrate Watanabe Global and hack the mainframe, but when Flynn has to reach through a rotating fan, Andy the Android does it to save Toilet. Andy gets damaged in the ventilation shaft, but manages to successfully stop the virus. When the group celebrates in stopping the virus, they get caught by Mr. Watanabe who tells Hideko and Ichiro the shame they put to Watanabe Global and the Watanabe family. CeCe tells him he should focus less on what they did and more on why they did it. Mr. Watanabe admits he is still angry with his grandkids, but angrier with himself for not paying attention to their ideas
After Andy gets damaged in the propeller shaft, Henry attempts to repair him as a sink faucet in the same bathroom as Toilet. Later at Watanapalooza, Rocky and CeCe get ready to perform, but Mr. Watanabe tells them they are not in the show due to being too closely associated with the virus. CeCe is ready to give up, but Rocky tells her they can't after everything they went through. When CeCe mentions they don't have their music, Keiko encourages them to get ready and help them since they got her re-hired at Watanabe Global. Keiko introduces Rocky and CeCe, and are met with boos, but Rocky encourages her to "get on board". They perform the song 'Made in Japan' and are met with cheers from the audience, including Mr. Watanabe. During the ending credits, Deuce is talking through the tablet, but realizes everyone left.

- A movie was announced at the 2011 Licensing International Expo in June. Which eventually transformed into this special episode.[1]
- This special episode marks the final appearances of Kenton Duty as Gunther Hessenheffer and Buddy Handleson as Henry Dillon.
- There is an extended version of the Live 2 Dance soundtrack which contains the three new songs that are exclusive to "Made In Japan" and a digital-only EP called: Shake It Up: Made in Japan. Its first single from this EP was released on July 20, 2012.
- The studio where Good Luck Charlie was filmed was transformed for this special episode.

Goofs[]
- In the song Made In Japan, the line "Loving cosplay, gotta say Sayonara U.S.A." is in Bella's voice, but in the episode, Zendaya is the one singing it.
- Rocky freaked out after Keiko announced the private jet, but she should have already known they would fly to Japan if they win.
- Not that many people in Japan would be able to speak English. Most of the buildings would also be in Japanese rather than English.
- If Mr. Watanabe and his mother went to the show together and were in line, Mr. Watanabe would likely not have the authority there to remove Rocky and CeCe, unless he put the show together.
- During the beginning of the episode, Keiko tells Mr. Watanabe about Shake It Up and she shows him a video on the tablet. The video is paused, but sound can be heard from it.
- Deuce could not go to Japan because it was only for Shake It Up! Chicago dancers and their families, but Henry came with them and he is not related to any dancer on the show.
- Although there could have been a limit of how many people can go and Henry got the last spot.
- Hideko said her brother's name, Ichiro, means itchy, but it actually means first son.
- Despite Shake It Up! Chicago winning the contest, Rocky and CeCe were the only cast members that performed in Tokyo, aside from Gunther and Tinka, who flew back home after getting detained.
