Interview stage? That sounds like a test.

Apply It Up is the 11th episode in season 2 of Shake It Up and the 32nd of the overall series. It first aired on January 8, 2012, making it the first Shake It Up episode of 2012.

Plot[]

CeCe and Rocky both get into the famous Chicago Fine Arts Academy, but only CeCe is offered a scholarship, forcing the girls to figure out a way that they can both attend. Meanwhile, Flynn and Henry believe that an asteroid is headed towards Earth.

Episode Summary[]

CeCe applies Rocky and herself to audition for the prestigious CFA (Chicago Fine Arts Academy) behind Rocky's back. Rocky and CeCe both make it past the first part of the audition, only to realize afterwords that there is an interview as well. CeCe begins to worry, thinking it will be like a test. Rocky informs her that it's not a test because you don't study for it, causing CeCe to feel like it will be exactly like a test because she doesn't study for tests. During the interview, CeCe says that she isn't the best person in history, math, science, etc., but that the dance floor is the one place where she gets to be a genius. Rocky says that when she was younger, she was always the tall girl and was teased and "yes, the weather is fine up here." But on the dance floor, she's not just a tall girl, and all that goes away when she dances. Both girls impress Mark Taussig, the Dean of Admissions, and leave, hoping they would be accepted. They later receive mail from CFA and are very excited to see if they were accepted. CeCe gets a packet, while Rocky gets a letter. Rocky rips up her letter without opening it, thinking she was rejected. CeCe gets accepted with a scholarship because she is from a single-income family. While they are looking at the pieces of Rocky's letter, they discover that she was accepted, but did not get a packet because she is from a double-income family. CeCe tells Rocky to call CFA and ask about it, and points out what she thinks is a phone number but is actually the amount of money the school costs. While at Crusty's, Rocky's parents tell her that they cannot afford to send her to CFA, but they will go to talk to admissions. Rocky and CeCe go to CFA before Rocky's parents can get there to tell Mr. Taussig that Rocky is actually from a single-income family and that her motherleft them and moved to different country, but her dad doesn't like to think of her as gone. Her father then arrives and says that Rocky's application does not tell the whole story. Mr. Taussig then says he understands, but does not know how he can manage being a doctor and raising two kids at the same time. Rocky's father begins to say that he has help, causing CeCe to jump in and say that she is the one helping him. Rocky's father then says that he gets help from his wife, not her. Rocky's mother arrives shortly afterwords, saying that someone let the air out of her tires. Rocky and CeCe act like she's finally come home, but their plan failed and their acceptence was taken away. But, they were told they should try out next year for the drama department.Meanwhile, Flynn and Henry believe that an astroid is heading for Earth and they try to tell NASA, but they do not believe them and think it is just a little joke and offer them astronaut ice cream. The two then try to order supplies so Henry can create something to save the world, but realize that it will take 5 days for shipping and they only have 4 days to live. Flynn makes a sandwhich that contains every kind of sandwhich within it, which is something on his bucket list. Henry does not have a bucket list, but says his family is from Scotland and he has always wanted to learn to play the bagpipes while wearing a kilt. Flynn says that seeing Henry in a man skirt was not on his bucket list, but it is now. When the astroid is about to hit, the two are under the table and they hug each other in fear. Henry counts down from five, but the astroid never hits. They realize that they are "just two dudes hugging under a table." Flynn gets out from under the table and answers the door after the doorbell rings and finds astronaut ice cream outside the door, along with a letter thanking Flynn for calling about the astroid and that he saved the world. Henry is upset because he didn't get any credit and all Flynn did was make the phone call. Flynn says he will tell everyone that he helped save the world if Henry doesn't tell anyone about the hug.

Memorable Quotes[]

CeCe: Interview stage? That sounds like a test.

Rocky: No, CeCe it's nothing like a test, you don't study for it at all.

CeCe: Oh, well, in that case it sounds exactly like a test!
CeCe: What are you talking about?

Rocky: My outfit for the audition, she said, trying to cross over the fact that her best friend has a point.

CeCe: Sweet! [pause] Wait, I'm that best friend, right?
Flynn: I'LL GET IT, MOM!! [opens door] Hello, my bespectacled friend who is unsuccessfully trying to bring back [straightens Henry's tie] the bowtie.

Henry[saddened] Hi, Flynn.

Flynn: "Hi, Flynn"? "Hi, Flynn"?! Where's the insult?! Where's the big words I have to look up after you leave?!

Henry: I see that you ascertained I am uncharacteristically aloof today.

Flynn: [pause] And he's back.

Trivia[]

  • This is the 2nd episode in Season 2 where only three main cast members are present. The first was "Beam It Up." It's also the third episode in the series to have only three main cast members, after "Glitz It Up" and “Beam It Up”.
  • This was part of Disney Channel's New Year event, JaNEWuary.

Goofs[]

  • Flynn never gave NASA his name or address, but when he received his package by mail, it said his name in the letter attached to it. Though, Flynn may have called NASA back to give them his name and address to get the ice cream he was offered. Or they could have track the number's location.
  • When Flynn opens the door, it looks more like a storage than a front door.
  • During the dance audition, the dancers disappear after they are eliminated, but in one brief shot, 3 of the eliminated dancers are seen watching on the side. In all the rest of the shots, the eliminated dancers are gone.
  • CeCe reads the incomplete sentences very well on the torn up pieces of Rocky's letter, but she has dyslexia. It is possible she was helped with reading, as Bella Thorne actually has dyslexia as well, but can read a year above her grade level.
